Made-to-measure solid wood furniture
We make dining tables, benches and other solid wood furniture to your measurements, in a modern or farmhouse style.
Solid wood furniture is made of wood through its full thickness, not of panels with wood only on the surface. That makes it heavier and sturdier, and damage can be sanded out and the surface protected again. The wood keeps its visible grain, while its colour slowly changes with light and age, which is in the nature of a natural material.
We make solid wood tables, benches, shelving, chests of drawers and cupboards, modern with clean lines or in a farmhouse style. A dining table is planned around how many people will sit at it and the space around it, and we choose the thickness of the top and the shape of the legs with you. It can be a single piece or several matched in wood and finish.

What we pay attention to
Sizing a dining table
Each person needs about 60 centimetres of table width to sit comfortably, and at least a metre should be left around the table so chairs can be pushed back. A bench against the wall saves space and seats more people than chairs, and we place the legs out of the way.
Caring for the surface
An oiled surface feels natural and can be repaired locally, but it needs re-oiling from time to time. A lacquered surface resists stains better, but damage is harder to repair. Put hot dishes on a mat and wipe up spills straight away, especially wine and coffee.
Wood in the room
Solid wood expands and contracts slightly with the humidity in the air. That is why we fix a tabletop to its base so it can move a little, and the room is best kept at moderate humidity. Keep the furniture away from radiators and fireplaces, where wood dries out faster and cracks.

Frequently asked questions
Which wood is best for a dining table?
Hardwoods such as oak and walnut suit dining tables, as they stand up well to everyday use. A softer wood such as spruce dents and scratches more easily, so it suits a farmhouse style, where signs of use are not a problem. We discuss the choice with you when you order.
Can you make a table from a photo?

Is solid wood furniture much more expensive?
It generally costs more than furniture made from panels, because it takes more material and more work. The difference depends on the type of wood, the thickness and the finish.
