Living room furniture

We make wall units, shelving and sideboards to fit your living room, with space for the television, books and the things you want on show or out of sight.

In the living room, furniture is the most visible, yet it has to hide a lot: cables, the router, toys, paperwork. A made-to-measure wall unit combines closed cupboards for these things with open shelves for books and objects you want to display. The television can sit in a niche, with the cables run through the unit so they stay out of sight.

We match the style to the room: a contemporary living room with smooth MDF fronts, a classic one with panelled doors or a rustic one in solid wood. When planning, we take into account the distance between the sofa and the television, the windows and radiators, and how you move around the room. The furniture can be complemented with wood cladding on a wall or ceiling.

What we pay attention to

01

Lighting in the shelves

Lit shelves highlight books and objects and give the room soft light in the evening. We build the lights into the shelves or a groove beneath them and hide the cables behind the back panel. The wiring must be planned before the unit is made, so we settle the lighting in the plan.

02

Solid wood or MDF

Solid wood has a visible grain and suits classic and rustic living rooms where wood is the main feature. Painted MDF gives smooth, single-colour fronts and suits contemporary units. The two can also be combined, for example wooden shelves with painted cupboards.

03

Weight and fixing

Books are heavier than they look, so we match the thickness and span of the shelves to what they will hold. We fix wall-hung cupboards to a masonry wall, and on plasterboard walls we use suitable anchors or reinforcement, which is best built in while the wall is being put up.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How big should a TV niche be?

The niche should be a few centimetres wider and taller than the television, leaving room for ventilation and connections. Since televisions get replaced, it is sensible to leave some extra room for a larger screen. Send us the model or the dimensions of your television and we will plan the niche around them.

Can you match living room furniture to what we already have?

Yes. When we visit, we look at the floor, doors and existing furniture and suggest a material and colour that go with them. An exact match of wood tone is not always possible, so sometimes it is better to choose a deliberately different but complementary material.

How much does a made-to-measure wall unit cost?

The price depends on the width and height of the unit, the balance of cupboards and open shelves, the material and any lighting. Once we know the dimensions of the wall and what you would like, we prepare a quote. Call 031 882 452 or e-mail info@kosecinterier.si.
